Great things to do in Andalucia – Starting from Casa Erica
This is part 1 of a little guide to explore the magical part of Spain ‘Andalucia’ with suggestions of things to do in Andalucia. In the end of the article you’ll find the link to the 2nd part. All of the recommendations are easy to reach by car or bus from Casa Erica.
1. Explore Picassos home town Málaga with its historical city center
The city center of Málaga has been restored recently and has a lot of interesting historical and cultural areas. You can visit the Alcazaba, which was build by the arabes in the middle of the 11 th century or admire Picassos paitings in the museum. Calle Marques de Larios is Málagas main shopping street with various shops and cafes. Recommendable beaches are playa Pedregalejo, where you’ll also find bars, and El Palo.
2. Visit the most famous sight Spain has to offer: the ‘Alhambra’ in Granada
The most famous sight of Spain, the Alhambra, is located in Granada, just 1.5 hours by car from Casa Erica. The Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex build in 889 and rebuild in the mid 11th century. If you want to visit the Alhambra you will have to buy your tickets online in advance. Also recommendable are the banos arabes. You can relax there in different pools, drink tea and enjoy a massage.
By the way: in the whole region of Granada you get a tapa for free with every drink you order in a restaurant. The spectacular thing about Granada is: within one hour you will reach the Sierra Nevada, a skiing area and from there just a few kilometres south you can lay in the sun on the beach.
3. Take a stroll through the idyllic town Nerja and visit the Caves of Nerja
Nerja has nice beaches and little bays to explore. You can enjoy a Paella at Burriana Beach or take a stroll around the charming narrow streets in the town and have a stunning view on Balcon de Europa. Nerja has even more attractions to offer: the stunning stalactite caves (cuevas de Nerja).
4. Walk around the prettiest of the several andalucian white towns: Frigiliana
Frigiliana is just a stone throw away from Nerja. It is the queen of the famous white towns of Andalucia. You’ll also find there small shops with moroccan furniture and decoration. Frigiliana has won a few times the award as the “most beautiful village of Andalucia”.
